Free SkypeOut in US and Canada to end soon

Although Skype is ending its promotion of free SkypeOut calls to landlines in the US and Canada on December 31, 2006, they are offering a new promotion for 50% off the cost of unlimited calls amoung the US and Canada for one year. The typical price is $30 per year, but whether you subscribe before January 31, 2007, you can get on the unlimited calls plan for only $14.95/yr and you’ll get the following coupons:

  • $30 off Polycom Communicator speakerphone
  • $30 rebate on Netgear WiFi Phone for
    Skype
  • $10 off Motorola Wireless Web Calling Kit
  • $10 off Motorola Talk and Tunes HT820 Bundle

It’s interesting, albeit expected, that that promotion pursues its free calling promo. Let’s see whether Skype is able to turn its users into paid subscribers and eventually invent a profit for parent company, eBay.
